Background |
An overview of the Norwegian Educational System
The Norwegian research system may be divided into three levels: First, a political level. Secondly, a strategic level, at which the Research Council of Norway has a key function. Finally, the performing level, at which we find industrial companies, research institutions, universities and colleges.

Research - Performing level |
 The abbreviation SINTEF means The Foundation for Scientific and Industrial Research at the Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTH). The SINTEF Group is the largest independent research organisation in Scandinavia. Every year, SINTEF supports the development of 2000 or so Norwegian and overseas companies via our research and development activity.
 Christian Michelsen Research AS was established in 1992 and is owned by Chr. Michelsen Institute (CMI) and the University of Bergen (UoB). CMR's activities range from technological research and development to the construction of prototypes and the commercialisation of completed products.
 RF is an all-round and productive research environment and is an acknowledged scientific team within Petroleum, Marine Environment, Social Science and Business Development.

Educational institutions |
 NTNU, is a centre for technological education and research in Norway, with a solid foundation in the natural sciences. NTNU offers the widest range of education in art subjects; music, the visual arts and architecture, of all the universities in Norway.
 The University of Oslo is Norway's largest and oldest institution of higher education. It was founded in 1811 when Norway was still under Danish rule. Today the University of Oslo has approx. 30,000 students and 4,600 employees. Four Nobel Prize winners indicates the quality of the research at the University.
 BI Norwegian School of Management is one of Norway's largest educational institutions. The School`s research meets international standards of excellence. The School hosts Norway`s largest academic mileu within the areas of business economics and administration, marketing and management.
 The Norwegian University of Life Sciences (UMB) is a leading international centre of knowledge, focused on higher education and research within environmental- and biosciences. UMB focuses specifically on biology, food, environment, land use and natural resource management.
